We are back at Farmers and Fletchers Hall for what should be a highlight of the year. Some of you will remember the Bordeaux Wine Tour that included a memorable visit to Brane-Cantenac owned by our guest, Henri Lurton. The Brane-Cantenac site has been producing wine since the 17th century. Initially named Domaine Guilhem H. Hostein, the property was bought by the Gorce family in the 18th century. In1833 the Château was bought by Joseph de Brane who changed the name to Château Brane-Cantenac in 1838.

In the 1855 classification Château Brane-Cantenac was classified as a Second Growth (as was Château Mouton Rothschild, only to be upgraded to a First Growth in 1973). For the last four generations, Château Brane-Cantenac has been under the ownership of the Lurton family. With current owner Henri Lurton taking charge of the property in 1992.

Henri Lurton has done extensive work in the vineyard and winery, regrafting Merlot to Cabernet Sauvignon (now representing 70% of the vineyard area), working organically and biodynamically (although not certified), building a new vat cellar
allowing vinification by plot, introducing R'Pulse for gentler extraction, and stricter selection for the Grand Vin, using exclusively fruit from the prized T4 terrace. These have all been key improvements reflected in the quality of the final wine that we will taste.
